It's hard to think of a new media that isn't already out there, in a world that is constantly reinventing. My idea would be to create personalized keyboards with actually emoji keys. Just as you have all the letters, numbers, symbols, etc., my keyboard would have a certain number of emojis (choose the ones you use the most or like the best), and put them on there as well. Instead of having to look through a list of emojis, you can just click on the "😊".  Side note: I just had to go search for the smiley face emoji on my laptop because it isn't available through here, and that was pretty annoying.

Wiki So Far

So far in our class Wiki I have contributed to the Fashion page, which I suggested the professor create after seeing it had not existed before. I also added to the Love page, just jumping off where another classmate had left off. In the future, I want to add to the Music page, giving my take on the Hispanic/Latino music in my culture.

P2P

The emergence of the web has made file sharing easy, quick, and convenient, especially through forms like peer-to-peer sharing and file synching services.  According to Wikipedia, "File sharing  is the practice of  distributing  or providing access to  digital media , such as  computer programs ,  multimedia  (audio, images and video), documents or  electronic books ."  P2P File sharing refers to the before mentioned peer-to-peer form of file sharing, which is the distribution of digital media using P2P networking technology. P2P sharing has evolved from its early design stages like Napster, to the more widely known BitTorrent. The widely known adoption of this sharing method  includes increasing Internet bandwidth, the widespread digitization of physical media, and the increasing capabilities of residential personal computers.  However, file sharing has led to copyright and legal issues.  Online piracy refers to illegal, unethical, and unauthorized use of the reproduction of

Privacy

The rise of new media has presented many advantages and disadvantages. One downside are the issues of privacy and confidentiality.  Social media, especially, has allowed  people to become "open books". We see it in celebrities, through news pages, or just random people, who are constantly talking and posting on their social media. However, it is important to consider those susceptible to hackers or leaked information. Unfortunately, a bad break up could lead to private information being shared on social media, due to pettiness. Furthermore, hackers looking for exclusive details, could find credit card informations or phone numbers.  "Cat fishing" is a modern way of compromising someone's social media. It consists of almost stealing someone else's identity, like their gender, photos, and other information to fabricate a new online identity. With this, people form relationships with strangers, while claiming to be someone else. The people who's informatio

Advice

If I were  hired by Baruch College to use  new media  to improve the College, my first suggestion would be to improve the CUNY portal and CUNY first pages. I would suggest updating the systems to make the pages more  modern and manageable. I would offer help in giving the pages a face lift; make it easier to search for your classes and communicate with professors, and make a quick guide or informational that first times users can access understand how to navigate the pages, especially helpful for freshman or transfer students. Another suggestion would be to make an app for these websites. It would be so much easier for students and faculty to access the pages through the App Store or Play Store, the way you would see Twitter on an expanded web version or in a more compressed mobile app version. Furthermore, I would plea for better Wifi service in the school and places accessible by campus. Currently in college, one of my biggest issues have been not being able to work on my laptop all

New Media and Creativity

Image
A super creative app that I use is called Bitmoji. Bitmoji is your own personal emoji. Today, emojis are a huge way that people communicate through text messages. It cuts down the use of words. For example, if you want to express that you're eating a hamburger, you can just insert the hamburger emoji (🍔). Bitmoji is your personalized version, where you create an avatar that looks just like you, you can apply clothes according to what you want to wear that day, and use it through Snapchat and text messages. Bitmojis are very expressive and when you plug in your phone's keyboard, there pages of your avatar in different moods, activities, and scenarios. Here are a few examples of what my Bitmoji looks like:

Creativity

In a world where minds run free, new media is a platform for fostering creativity. People are constantly innovating and reinventing the internet, meaning that new apps and websites that serve different purposes are constantly being created. We see a lot of creativity being fostered in our younger generation, the millennials and post-millennials, or generation Z. The New York Times article "Disney Tolerates a Rap Parody of Its Critters. But Why?", details how YouTube users started 'mashup' videos, where snippets of animated movies and TV shows are edited together and usually combined with a song. Just think of it as Winnie the Pooh characters rapping to a Soulja Boy song. I know you're wondering, "How do people even think of this?" Well, considering how vast and infinite the internet is, this creativity is not all that surprising. Videos like these gain major popularity and spark inspiration for new experimental behavior on the web. Furthermore, the enhan
