Blog vs. Wiki
In a world now ran by technology, its no secret that blogs
and wikis highlight the effects of new media. Similarly, these two engines are
used as forms of communications with the world, where people can express their
ideas. These forms of websites may seem similar – used for people to write things – however, they’re used differently. According to Wikipedia, “A wiki is a website
that provides collaborative
modification of its content and structure directly from the web browser.” Notably, a
wiki invites anyone to edit any page within the wiki site. On the other hand, a
blog is a more informal site, where the blogger creates journal or diary like
entries that are time-stamped. Blogs can be very useful for businesses, teaching,
and even helping lead to drug raid – reported by The New York Times. One of
their articles details how a group of strangers came together to share
information on a blogging website in order to remain informed on what goes on
in Brooklyn. It’s an amazing concept.
Blogs can be
use for collaborations in the workplace. One way being through wordpress.com,
which can by used to turn a new blog into a collaborative tool. There you can
assign team members, like authors and editors, and from there on you could work
privately in collaboration with a team. A great idea that I proposed for our
class wiki was the “Fashion” sector, which hadn’t yet been added, where
classmates can express their opinions and definitions on the art of fashion.
